Latest Updates from Our Project:

5 Days of progress. (edit- plus rough development plans)
about 6 years ago – Sat, Mar 17, 2018 at 01:08:29 AM

Ahow Crew!

While we wait for funds to finish finalizing with Kickstarter, we’ve been hard at work on the BackerKit, test printing and modeling.

I’ve had a couple questions on the custom captain miniature that some have chosen at their pledge level- yes. You get to design it, give me reference photos for pose and/or clothing, tell me the race (any fantasy humanoid is fine) and both the STL and miniature will be sent your way :-)

The forecastle is now completely print tested :-)  We do prefer having it's rail printed as one piece, but as shown below- it doesn't look bad in a 2 part configuration, even when you have a little bed separation issue on your print (optimized for small print beds).

Because Bowsprits should be playable terrain as well ;-)

Note- the stairs plug in using a OpenLOCK connector, to enable changing stair styles, to ladders (that have a half-clip integrated), etc.

We are currently test-printing the revised 2x2 and prow floor panels for the upper deck- as you can see in the above picture, some of the texture was not quite deep enough.

Baluster Rails, the sterncastle deck-side balcony, captains wheel, the newly revised plain side hull panels, and windowed side hull pieces are fully print tested as well. We realized that we weren't happy with the old wood-grain passes, and added more depth to them to help .2mm prints come out looking, well- more like wood grain.

Any questions, etc. please let us know! We're hoping to have the test print of the masts, alternate forecastle, alternate siding for the prows curve, and decking finished this coming week.

Would love sooner, but we can only print as fast as the printer allows ;-)

Can't wait to launch the BackerKit portal, and to let you all start managing pledges and printing your own ships!

The question was asked- what order will everything be developed and/or print tested in?

The answer is simple overall- after getting all of the "Core Ship" components and alternate pieces converted over, I will start tackling things in general one stretch goal at a time. There may be days when this deviates - and I might do, say- multiple figureheads at once or work on a piece of the C'thulu or Necromantic ship. As a whole though the latest update items will be finished last.

UNLEASH THE KRAKEN!!!
about 6 years ago – Sun, Mar 11, 2018 at 11:40:30 PM

Aye, and avast my hearties!

We're closing on the end of this, or maiden quest. We have won against terrible foes! Taming the very kraken to follow each of you home to where someday it shall grow into a kraken to terrify and inspire your own stories!

The Necromantic bone ship has also been unlocked for all core ship and above backers! It will allow you to transmogrify your ships into chilling works of undead or necromantic horrors. I am working remotely at the moment and will post my initial concepts tonight.

Now, will we be guided to safety at the twin lighthouses of the edge of the maps? Only time and you, my wonderful amazing crew can decide.

We did it!
about 6 years ago – Sun, Mar 11, 2018 at 11:40:27 PM

Thanks to all of you, we made it through the Kickstarter adventure.

We simply don't have words enough to be able to express how much all of your ideas, help, encouragement, and faith mean to all of us here at Dragon Workshop.

We weren't entirely sure going in how the product would be received- after all, there are hundreds of OpenLOCK, and Dragon bite products out there- but they all have something in common- they're largely buildings. Ships have been simply left as pretty but static (or incredibly simplistic) models prior to our project.

We turned that on it's head- and all of you are a part of making it become more than our pet project and that is simply amazing.

Within the next two weeks, give or take a couple of days based on what we hear- Kickstarter should have everything processed on their end. Then we'll start up the Backerkit portal, and everyone can start creating the different models as they are finished and print tested.

We won't be silent however- we will have continued regular updates with sketches, WIP art as major pieces get close to done, print tests, etc.

Backerkit will let you choose your add-ons, based on your pledge level and amount. It will also let you adjust your pledge- perhaps you'll see something we, or a fellow backer prints and decide you want to add that to your collection while still able to take advantage of the Kickstarter prices.  Our partner product from Brightshield games will also be there!

After development and fulfilment is done with BackerKit, we'll move onto a revamped website, letting you converse in a community forum, seek help, or simply download your purchases from the kickstarter- or future items- from your account page.

ShipWorks will be a lasting project, with a ton of room to grow. We have plans to have more projects in the future, and have learned a lot through this first Kickstarter, and future projects will make use of all of it.

Thank you all again for supporting us!!!!!!!!!!

Final Hours Update: Unlocks, a Kraken Spotted, Print-test and more
about 6 years ago – Sun, Mar 11, 2018 at 08:26:54 PM

Ahoy Crew- We’re in the final hours- and not far from the Kraken, and the Necromantic Ship of Bone. We’ve spotted the kraken in the distance, and she is a terrifying beast. We’ve also heard from the Gryphon King, and found sketches of strange and dangerous aquatic flora- Pelagics they’re dubbed. They float on the waters and are occasionally found in the dark humid depths of the jungles far from the beaten trail. Fleshy, between 10 and nearly 40 feet across, they are firm (if disgusting) to stand upon, and many a shipwrecked sailor has found their salvation (and depending on the pelagic- their doom) upon their surface.

Kraken Art not final. Not shown: Further kraken tentacles options, 2 variant ship wrapping tentacles, a ‘coiled back to strike’ tentacle, and a reaching up tentacle. Head will have a pair of variants, one with just two eyes (One of the heads will be a KS exclusive, will have a poll voting on it) with a row of spines running down the sides of the kraken’s head- I’ve seen this on a few pieces of art, and love the idea. Head will of course be sectioned and hollow for ease of printing/materials.

Change note: Beach set add on is now the Beaches and Flora add-on.

Final hours Unlock: Beaches and Flora Add-on; Adding the 5 Pelagic scatter terrain designs (in both 2”, 4” and quad-cut 8” varieties. Also adding driftwood, floating log, buoys and cargo crates, for adding flotsam to your shores.

Yes, the crates in water will have water ripples added coming off their sides.

And a print test (Sorry, couldn't do the black wash to make the wood grain pop, ran out.)

Also, as it's been asked a few times- where Pennants or flags go- you'll have paper templates and examples to print off and put on this piece:
